INTRODUCTION

We have observed after many years of taking friends and guests to be within this environment, that this experience of immense peace and awe comes when immersed in the expansiveness of nature, and is sustained when conditions are right. This feeling is further enhanced by the connection to the Dayak people & their culture.

Authentic Experience will allow for surprise, inspiration and self-discovery. We offer this by introducing activities that will allow active participation and interaction with the natural environment as well as genuine engagement with the local people & their culture.

BORNEO is a place that is known all over the world as one of the last natural wilderness, teeming with flora and fauna life, a land inhabited by Native Dayaks – a land unexplored, mysterious, fragile and threatened. The name BORNEO itself evokes a vision of deep, lush rainforest, winding broad rivers, exotic natives, rare plants, giant trees, colorful birds, unique mammals, strange insects, and the majestic Orangutans. The founding members of BORNEO ESCAPE, live here or have been coming here for over 30 years and have ourselves experienced this wilderness and mystery firsthand.

We have confirmed for ourselves that in this busy world where feelings can become compressed, people will feel unhealthy and at times confused, and they will need a place where there is nature, good clean air, wide open spaces and feelings in order to be able to revive, regenerate and get back in touch with their ‘self’.

We have also come to understand the criteria’s for such conditions and have designed our  experiential offers based on them. A Safe and Worry-Free Environment is key to experience events on a deeper emotional and personal level. With an efficient and friendly service provided by self-motivated staff who understands the importance of maintaining an environment that provides an escape from the tired everyday world into this vibrant exotic realm

This is a form of tourism in which people focus on experiencing a country, city or particular place by connecting to its history, people, culture and nature. That is why we are called BORNEO ESCAPE … Escape to Borneo into an exotic, unique outer and inner world … One of the fastest  rowing tourism sector is EXPERIENTIAL TRAVEL. The “Peak + Skift Travel Group Report 2015: The Rise of Experiential Travel” explains: Travelers in this seamlessly connected era, from backpackers to billionaires, want to feel inspired by the places they visit and the people they meet, while pushing past preconceived notions of different cultures, both near and far, to become more dynamic and informed citizens. Equally paramount, today’s most savvy travelers of all ages want to experience that transformative journey in a way that is wholly their own. Social media, digital innovation, and the desire for bigger and better experiences helped trigger the rise of experiential travel, and these keen social media users often want to stay connected while they’re seeking out authentic experiences. Older travelers are also more active than before, and want more involved experiences “As we watch adventure travel tourism grow, it is imperative that we continue to provide travelers with transformative experiences” We have observed the rise of this tide and we have a strong conviction that BORNEO ESCAPE can deliver something unique and bespoke in Kalimantan which experiential travelers are seeking. Designed around existing infrastructure and environment for low environmental impact, we provide the safety, comfort, certainty, hospitality and adaptability for the unique experiences we offer.

Our Target Market are: Domestic Market – mid to high income local tourists (many educated abroad) looking for a unique (and Instagrammable) International Class experience. The best time of year for activities are between January and October. November and December are usually more rainy. Regional Market – mid to high income tourists looking for unique and (and Instagrammable) International Class experience. Up to now, tourist arrival into Central Kalimantan is low – around 35,000 arrivals in 2016 – as there are no tourist destinations or systems except for Tanjung Puting orangutan reserve areas in the west of the province which is over-crowded. No tourist come to Palangka Raya except for special events – sports, culture, Koran reading and so on. Palangka Raya, our port of entry, can be reached by air from Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, Balikpapan, Banjarmasin, Pontianak and Semarang – and the new International airport is operational since 2018, with flights from Bali, Malaysia and eventually Singapore planned. We operate excursions around the area of Rungan Sari, Tangkiling and Palangka Raya initially, but eventually can expand further to the Northern forests and to areas more to the West and North East. Our market sector primarily is from Indonesia and SE Asia. Foreign tourists are also our guests but the market for domestic and SE Asian tourists is much larger and more accessible. Indonesia’s domestic tourism saw 260 million trips in 2016 and growing annually at 4%. Domestic travel and tourism spending in 2016 was USD 17.6 billion. Added to this are 8 million tourist from SE Asia and another 6 million from other countries (2016). We are a first-of-its-kind tourist attraction in our area with travel packages designed for domestic and international tourists with standards and service level expected by foreign guests. International Market – mid to high income Experiential tourists (Gen X, Gen Y, Millennials, some Baby Boomers) looking for a unique ‘be-the-first-to discover’ experience.
